Metra Safety Poster and Essay Contest

Organization & Scholarship Overview:
The Safety Poster Contest is a key part of our ongoing effort to increase public awareness of lifesaving railroad safety practices. The theme for the 2018-2019 school year: “Use Your Senses” emphasizes the importance of being aware and using all your senses — including common sense – when around trains and railroad tracks.

Eligibility: The contest is open to all students in grades K through 12 living or attending school in Metra’s six-county service area: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will.
Essay Entry Criteria: Participants are asked to explain in 300 words or less why it is important to “Use Your Senses” when near trains and railroad tracks.

Each entry must:

  • Include the Entry Form
  • Be the participant’s original work.
    Please note: Essays containing fictionalized information will be disqualified.

Award Amount Information: First place winners will receive an iPad. Second place winners will receive a $250 Gift Card. Third place winners will receive a $100 Gift Card.
