Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation - Phi Kappa Omega Chapter Scholarships

Organization Overview:
The Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation (EOIP) is the philanthropic arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Phi Kappa Omega Chapter. The Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation seeks to spark change in the greater Chicagoland community it serves by providing scholarships, family programs, health services and educational resources.

The Scholarship Program began in 2003 with donations from the community and chapter members. Since then, EOIP have awarded a total of 53 gifts to deserving young men and women enrolled in various colleges and universities. In keeping with Phi Kappa Omega’s, unwavering commitment to post-secondary education, EOIP recognizes African-American students attending or currently enrolled at four-year degree granting institutions. EOIP is dedicated to distinguishing students with outstanding contributions to community service and academic excellence. Strengthening this legacy, is the foundation of each of our scholarship awards.

Required Documentation for ALL Scholarships:

  • Official high school or college transcript with the official school seal. Transcripts may include 2nd or 3rd semester of high school or college transcripts. Copies will not be accepted.
  • Two (2) professional letters of recommendation, (one must be from a high school guidance counselor or college faculty on official school letterhead). Copy the attached Scholarship Reference Form to each letter of recommendation.
  • A 250 – 500 word response to the personal statement prompt AND a 500-word response to one of the essay questions.
  • A 4×6 headshot of yourself with your name included on the back of the picture. Please note submission of the headshot gives Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Phi Kappa Omega Chapter, in conjunction with Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation permission to use for promotional purposes.
  • Include your Biography (250 words) that will be read at Scholarship reception if notified as a winner.
  • Please DO NOT staple pages submitted for review.

Application & Criteria: EOIP Odas Nicholson Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements for EOIP Odas Nicholson Scholarship:

  • A permanent resident of Cook County, Illinois. Your parent/guardian must also reside in Cook County, Illinois upon your entrance into college.
  • An African-American female graduating high school or currently enrolled in a four-year college or university.
  • Must have at least a B average (weighted GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 4.0/5.0).
  • Able to show proof of full-time enrollment or acceptance in a four-year college or university in the United States by July 1, 2019.
  • Not a relative [by virtue of blood, marriage or generational relations] of a member of Phi Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • Not a previous recipient of any Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation scholarships. Please refer to the Previous Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation Scholarship for 2019.

Application & Criteria: EOIP STEM Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements for EOIP STEM Scholarship:

  • A permanent resident of Cook County Illinois. Your parent/guardian must also reside in Cook County Illinois upon your entrance into college.
  • An African-American female or male student graduating high school or currently enrolled in a four-year college or university.
  • Must have at least a B average (weighted GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 4.0/5.0).
  • Able to show proof of full time enrollment or acceptance letter from a STEM program, and/or a letter of admission into an accredited STEM college program, for example College of Engineering.
  • Able to show proof of full-time enrollment or acceptance in a four-year college or university in the United States by July 1, 2019.
  • Not a relative [by virtue of blood, marriage or generational relations] of a member of Phi Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • Not a previous recipient of any Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation scholarships. Please refer to the Previous Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation Scholarship for 2019.

Eligibility Requirements for EOIP HBCU Scholarship:

  • A permanent resident of Cook County Illinois. Your parent/guardian must also reside in Cook County Illinois upon your entrance into college.
  • An African-American female or male student graduating high school or currently enrolled in a four-year HBCU college or university.
  • Must have at least a B average (weighted GPA of 3.0/4.0 or 4.0/5.0)
  • Able to show proof of full-time enrollment or acceptance in a four-year HBCU college or university in the United States by July 1, 2019.
  • Not a relative [by virtue of blood, marriage or generational relations] of a member of Phi Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • Not a previous recipient of any Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation scholarships. Please refer to the Previous Essence of Ivy and Pearls Foundation Scholarship for 2019.
