Davidson College Charles Scholarship

Scholarship Overview & Description:
As a Chicago Public School student, you may be eligible to receive the Charles Scholarship—an award honoring those with established financial need and a record of academic achievement, personal accomplishment, and leadership ability. Preference is given to multicultural students, particularly Latino and Hispanic students.

Students can be nominated by school counselors, principals, or college access program leaders. They may nominate up to three students from their school or program using our online nomination form. Our admission and financial aid staff may also nominate you based on the strength of your application for admission. The Charles Scholarship NOMINATION deadline is Friday, December 1st.

Nomination Forms must include the following:

  • An official transcript
  • A letter of recommendation for the nominee for this scholarship

The Charles Scholarship provides funding that offers:

  • Comprehensive cost of tuition, fees, room and board (approximately $65,819 for the 2019-20 academic year)
  • Book and personal expense allowance
  • Travel allowance (three round-trip flights to Chicago)
  • Special study opportunity funds

Important Deadlines:

  • December 1, School nominations due
  • January 7, Admission applications due
  • February 1, FAFSA and CSS College Profile due
  • March, Finalists participate in selection interviews in Chicago and winners are announced
  • April, Winners are invited to campus for Celebration and Recognition Weekend

Note: students must complete an application for admission by January 6, 2020 in order to be considered for the scholarship.

Renewable: Yes, for remaining three years, provided student maintains specified grade point average and meets requirements toward earning a degree
