Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Delta Sigma Chicago Alumnae Chapter Scholarship

Scholarship & Organization Description:
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated has a presence locally, nationally, and worldwide. The sorority was founded on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis Indiana by seven college women. Sigma Gamma Rho has grown and is represented internationally. We exist as Graduate Chapters members, Undergraduate Chapter members, and Members at Large. Additionally, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., has an affiliate group for adult women who have not completed and/or attended college. This group acts with and supports the organization with charitable and public service activities. We also sponsor a young women and girls’ club for girls in middle school through high school. The participants are provided leadership development opportunities and opportunities for public and community service. SGR’s corporate mission is to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the United States and globally through community service. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, healthcare and leadership development.

To be considered for a scholarship award, each applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • High school senior (class of 2020)
  • Accepted to and enrolled in a 2-year and/or 4-year college or university
  • All applicants must have a “C” average or minimum 2.5 weighted GPA
  • Be a full-time student in good standing at an accredited high school

Deadline for all requirements to be met is April 30, 2020. Scholarship award recipients will be notified by Friday, May 22, 2020.
*All finalists for awards will need to provide Tax Information for proper financial award documentation.

Open to DREAMers: No
Renewable: Yes, awardees can reapply and compete for consideration of a 2nd-year award.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Please identify someone from your school administration to provide a Letter of Good Standing
  2. Please upload your college letter of acceptance. The letter of acceptance or proof must come from a regionally accredited two or four-year institution of higher learning.
  3. Please list the extra curricular activities and community service you have been involved in and the awards and honors you have received.
  4. If you listed any awards or honors, please upload supporting documentation (i.e., certificates, letters of commendation, etc.).
  5. ESSAY QUESTION: Using ONE of the following topic (please explain and give details): (1) If you had the ability to go back in time during the period of your lifetime, and change a historical event, what would you change and what outcome would you envision? (2) If you could have a conversation with a historical figure, who would you choose and why? What one question would you ask them and why? OR (3) Discuss a person or event from the past 12 months (within the last year) that has impacted you directly and explain how has your life been changed by this person or event.
