WTS Junior College Scholarship

Organization & Scholarship Description:
WTS fosters the development of women in the transportation field by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in transportation. One way it does this is by awarding community, technical, or trade college scholarships to women pursuing transportation- related study at community and trade colleges.

This scholarship is intended for students pursuing an associate or technical degree in transportation-related studies.

The WTS Junior College Scholarship through the Greater Chicago Chapter is $1,000. The winner of the Greater Chicago Chapter scholarship will be nominated for the WTS International Foundation scholarship of $2,500.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a female high school senior planning to attend a Junior College for the 2023-24 school year
  • Weighted or unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
  • Enrolled or planning to enroll in a degree program for the 2024-2025 school year in a transportation-related field at a junior college OR trade program in the Chicagoland area

Application Requirements

  1. Official High School *Transcript
  2. Student must submit a completed application via CPS Academic Works.
  3. One (1) letter of recommendation from a Teacher, Counselor, College & Career Coach, Professor or Job Supervisor.
  4. Proof of Enrollment: For the Fall 2024 semester at the Junior College or Trade Program of your choice within Chicago
  5. Personal Statement: A statement about your career goals after graduation and why you think that you should receive the scholarship award. Applicants must address the issue of leadership, its importance in a transportation career, and the applicant’s leadership achievements. (Statement should not exceed 500 words)
  6. Resume (optional): If you would like your resume forwarded to companies in the Chicago area for potential internship or full-time opportunities, please upload your resume via your application. Please note on your resume your anticipated graduation date and if you are looking for an internship or full-time position.

Renewable: No, but students who have applied or received this scholarship in the past can apply again for consideration.

  2. REQUIRED RECOMMENDATION: Please provide a recommendation from your school principal, counselor, College and Career Coach or Teacher.
  3. Personal Statement: In 500 words or less, describe your career goals after graduation and why you think that you should receive the scholarship award. Be sure to include the following: (1) address the issue of leadership (2) the importance of leadership in a transportation career and (3) your leadership achievements.
  4. Proof of Enrollment: Please provide an acceptance letter to the Junior College you plan to attend. (Note, if selected as an award recipient proof of enrollment will need to be provided during your first semester of Fall 2022.)
  5. Professional or School Affiliations: List any school, professional or community activities you have participated in. Include offices held and awards received in your GENERAL APPLICATION.
  6. Employment History: Please list any paid work experience you have had including full-time, part-time, co-op and summer employment. Briefly describe duties and responsibilities within your GENERAL APPLICATION.
  7. Please upload a copy of your resume that includes work experience, academic accomplishments, leadership roles and other relevant activities.
