Organization & Scholarship Overview:
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922, at the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The sorority, which is the only one of the four National Pan-Hellenic Council sororities started on a predominantly White college campus, was chartered by seven school teachers who were determined to create an organization of women who are committed to higher education, dedicated to youth, living by the highest ethical standards, and rendering unselfish service to make a better society.

On August 16, 1992, forty-six women chartered Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter in Oak Lawn, Illinois, one of the largest graduate chapters in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority’s history.
