Scholarship Overview:
The George M. Pullman Educational Foundation Scholarship helps ensure that exceptionally promising students with financial need can earn a college degree without the burden of severe financial debt. The Foundation awards merit-based, need-based scholarships of up to $10,000 per year, depending on the student’s financial need. Scholars who remain in good standing are invited to renew their scholarship for up to four years of full-time undergraduate study. Nearly 14,000 scholars have benefited from more than $32 million in scholarships throughout the Foundation’s history.

Eligible Applicants Must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior, class of 2019
  • Be a Cook County, Illinois resident
  • Be enrolling as a full-time student, for the first time, to receive a bachelor’s degree
  • Be attending an accredited bachelor’s degree-granting institution that is eligible to receive Title IV federal aid and is located within the U.S.
  • Demonstrate strong financial need
  • Have a cumulative 3.0 unweighted GPA or higher
  • Be eligible to receive state and federal aid and will file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
  • Not currently attending a college or community college, or hold any degree

Required Documentation:

  • Online application (this includes three 500-word essay questions)
  • Two (2) online recommendation forms [A teacher needs to complete one online recommendation form, and the other recommendation form needs to be completed by an adult who can speak to who you are and your accomplishments (a counselor, mentor, coach, teacher, employer, etc.). No recommendations from family or personal friends will be accepted.]
  • Official academic transcript
  • 2019-2020 FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR)

Open to DREAMers: No
Renewable: Yes, scholars who remain in good standing (maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, participate in Foundation programming, etc.) are invited to renew their scholarship during their four years of full-time undergraduate study
